Last Sunday, Bailar es mi Cuento brought together nearly 180 people for a day filled with creativity, talent, and reflection. Organized by Timbalé, this event was much more than an artistic showcase: it was a space designed to strengthen social cohesion, inspire young people, and connect communities through living culture.
Thanks to collective efforts and the invaluable support of partners like Grupo Recordar, Bodega Comfama, the Mayor’s Office of Medellín, FEPEP, and others who believe in the transformative power of art, Bailar es mi Cuento became a unique meeting point. Young people, families, and artists shared stories, lessons, and dreams, reaffirming that art is a powerful tool for building a more inclusive and supportive future.
The Power of Storytelling: Creativity and Youth in Motion
From the very beginning, the day aimed to connect attendees through creativity and the art of storytelling. The icebreaker activity transformed simple fabrics into tools for imagination and connection. Each participant had the opportunity to imagine and share what their piece of fabric represented—a superhero cape, a flower, or even a musical instrument. This exercise sparked laughter, trust, and a sense of belonging, setting the stage for a meaningful experience.
More than a game, this dynamic was an invitation to recognize ourselves through our stories. Every person carries a unique story, a spark of creativity, and the potential to be an agent of change. Sharing these stories not only enriches those who tell them but also those who listen, strengthening community bonds and opening pathways toward a future full of possibilities.
Reflections That Inspire and Transform
The "Opportunities for Young People" panel was one of the most profound moments of the day, integrating perspectives on youth leadership, education, art, and the importance of listening to the realities of our community. With the participation of Juan Jorge Cuesta, Gerardo Ríos Gil, and William Carvajal, the panel explored how art and living culture are essential engines for social transformation.
The panelists emphasized the importance of art as a tool to face challenges, build solid leadership, and empower young people as active agents of change. The panel left a clear message: when we listen, understand, and act together, we can build stronger, more inclusive communities, opening new opportunities for future generations.
Dance: The Language That Unites Us
The presentation of community talents was a pivotal moment of the event, highlighting the power of dance as a universal language to build community. Son Batá, cultural ambassadors from Comuna 13, filled the stage with Afro-Colombian rhythms and messages of resistance and hope. Policasino, passionate about rueda de casino, demonstrated how discipline and teamwork can transform dance into a tool for cohesion.
Meanwhile, Timbalé’s Salsa and Bachata ensembles showcased their dedication, passion, and creativity, proving that artistic training is a platform for exploring talents and strengthening leadership. Finally, the young participants of our program, Bailemos Juntos: Un Baile Para Recordar, proudly presented the results of their training process, demonstrating how art can help overcome challenges and build self-confidence.
More than a performance, these presentations were a celebration of the cultural diversity that shapes our community. Each act made it clear that art connects, transforms, and generates positive changes in those who experience it.
An Event with Real Impact
Bailar es mi Cuento was not just an event; it was a significant step in our mission to create spaces that strengthen the social fabric through art. Our main goal was to generate an environment where young people, families, and communities could feel part of something meaningful, promoting reflection, creativity, and change.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this unforgettable day possible, including Grupo Recordar, Bodega Comfama, the Mayor’s Office of Medellín, FEPEP, and, of course, every attendee who joined us with their energy and enthusiasm. This is just the beginning of many stories to tell and many dances to share.
Thank you for being part of this life-transforming community!
